Kevin Schoonover started crushing rock in his father's business in 1976. Forty years and several careers later — at Kiewit, Granite Construction, FNF, Asphalt Paving & Supply, Fisher Industries, and CEMEX — he and his wife Terry Clark launched Onyx Crushing AZ in late 2023 to do the work on their own terms.
Kevin's crushed material for the Folsom Dam in California. He's run roll, cone, and jaw plants — including jaw crushers that swallow 5'×8' boulders. He's produced the rock for copper and gold leach pads in the southwest. Crushing technology has changed; the fundamentals have not.
The Onyx model is simple. We don't run a yard. We don't keep stockpiles. We don't sell aggregate. We bring our mobile crushing plants to your site — your pit, your rubble pile, your overburden — and we process it to the spec your project calls for.
In two and a half years we've processed over 2.5 million tons of material across six Arizona counties for clients including Haydon, Okland, Asphalt Paving & Supply, Lincoln Constructors, Vulcan, Rock Pros, Arcosa, and others. Production runs 350 to 500 TPH. Daily capacity tops out at 5,000 tons.
We're husband-and-wife operated. Kevin handles bids, scheduling, and field execution. Terry handles the books and cost management. Between us, we answer the phone every time it rings.
