About Onyx Crushing

ONYX OPENED IN 2023.
OUR FOUNDER STARTED
CRUSHING IN 1976.

Onyx Crushing AZ LLC is a husband-and-wife Arizona crushing company. Founded by Kevin G. Schoonover and Terry L. Clark in late 2023 — built on Kevin's forty-plus years of crushing experience across the western United States.

Our Story

FOUR DECADES
OF CRUSHING
EXPERIENCE.

Started in 1976 in the family business. Onyx Crushing AZ LLC opened in late 2023.

Kevin Schoonover started crushing rock in his father's business in 1976. Forty years and several careers later — at Kiewit, Granite Construction, FNF, Asphalt Paving & Supply, Fisher Industries, and CEMEX — he and his wife Terry Clark launched Onyx Crushing AZ in late 2023 to do the work on their own terms.

Kevin's crushed material for the Folsom Dam in California. He's run roll, cone, and jaw plants — including jaw crushers that swallow 5'×8' boulders. He's produced the rock for copper and gold leach pads in the southwest. Crushing technology has changed; the fundamentals have not.

The Onyx model is simple. We don't run a yard. We don't keep stockpiles. We don't sell aggregate. We bring our mobile crushing plants to your site — your pit, your rubble pile, your overburden — and we process it to the spec your project calls for.

In two and a half years we've processed over 2.5 million tons of material across six Arizona counties for clients including Haydon, Okland, Asphalt Paving & Supply, Lincoln Constructors, Vulcan, Rock Pros, Arcosa, and others. Production runs 350 to 500 TPH. Daily capacity tops out at 5,000 tons.

We're husband-and-wife operated. Kevin handles bids, scheduling, and field execution. Terry handles the books and cost management. Between us, we answer the phone every time it rings.

THE PEOPLE
BEHIND THE PHONE.

When you call, you'll talk to one of these people — or someone who can hand the call to one of them. That's not a marketing line, that's how the company is run.

Bachelor of Science in Business Management. Manages company finances and plays an integral part in cost management — every job runs against a model that covers down time, maintenance, and overhead before it gets a number on it.

Husband-and-wife company. Two owners, two phones, one accountability chain.

The Crew

EVERY OPERATOR. EVERY GROUND CREW. MSHA PART 46 TRAINED.

We don't subcontract our operators. The people on the plant are Onyx crew, MSHA-certified, and trained on the equipment we send to your site. 4 MSHA Mine IDs registered for our mobile crushing plants.

Why Onyx

THE WORK SPEAKS LOUDER
THAN THE PITCH.

01

FAMILY-RUN

Owner-operated since day one. When you call, you get a decision-maker — not a call center.

02

ON THE CLOCK

We quote schedules and we hit them. Plants set up in 24 hours, daily production reports.

03

SAFETY FIRST

MSHA Part 46 trained crews. 4 registered Mine IDs. Site-specific safety procedures every job.

04

SPEC, NOT GUESS

In-house gradation testing, dust-control compliance, scale-certified tickets — proof, not promises.

Safety & Compliance

SAFETY ISN'T
A POSTER ON
THE WALL.

Every Onyx Crushing operator is MSHA Part 46 trained and verified. Every plant runs a daily walk-around inspection. Every site gets a written Job Hazard Analysis specific to that location before we start producing.

Dust suppression water trucks travel with every portable setup. Where we work inside Maricopa County non-attainment areas, our crews carry the dust-control permits and stay on top of compliance reporting — which keeps our partners out of trouble too.
